Adult Archery Practice
Join fellow adult archers for weekly practice and archery camaraderie. Archers must bring all their own equipment and know how to use it, no formal lessons will be given during practice times, but informal tips and coaching from instructors will be given as needed. Distances can be shot from 15 – 70 meters, all targets and FITA style target faces will be provided.

01/10 Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD)

Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Club for Homeschool
This is the next step for youth archers who are experienced shooters and serious about taking their archery to the next level. JOAD is a developmental program offered by Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation that uses the USA Archery curriculum. This program is for ages 8-20. To be eligible to join the JOAD program, members must own their own bow, have completed at least two seasons of the Chesterfield Star Shooters Youth Archery program and be able to shoot a score of 55 points or higher in that class (Exceptions can be made those with substantial archery experience outside of the Star Shooters program, i.e. NASP, etc.) JOAD registration cost includes star pins earned and lanyard to hold them. Additional membership in USA Archery (www.usaarchery.org) is highly recommended and required to compete in most tournaments, but not required to initially participate in the JOAD program. Introduction to Archery
Enjoy the fun of learning a new sport, from stance to follow through, focusing on beginning form, safety, and proper use of equipment. Participants will learn the basics of archery on their choice of simple compound bows or recurve bows. This class focuses on group-style target archery and is taught by USA Archery certified instructors. All classes take place on the group instructional range located directly next to Rockwood Nature Center. Class is held rain or shine, but in the event of inclement weather, instruction and shooting take place inside the nature center’s classroom. For ages 8 and older, adults and families welcome.

01/25 Star Shooters Youth Archery Club

Star Shooters Youth Archery Club
Join the Star Shooters Archery Club for an entire shooting season! This program, for kids ages 8-16, meets weekly for eight weeks. This is a great way for kids to receive more in-depth archery instruction in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. During each class, participants will learn techniques, form, and rules for target archery, as well as try different types of bows (compound and recurves), shoot archery games and perform drills to become a better archer. Twice per season, kids have the opportunity to earn one of a series of rank patches based on their personal shooting scores. Bows and equipment are provided, or use your own with instructor approval. At the end of the season, archers compete in a members-only tournament where kids can pit their skills against others in their age brackets to take home a trophy! New students with no archery experience are encouraged, but also must register for the New Archery Club Member Introduction class. Instructors are USA Archery certified. Cost includes equipment, patches, tournament medals, and trophies. Three time-slots are available but space is limited, so register early to be assured a spot! 100$/person

All classes take place on the group instructional range located directly next to Rockwood Nature Center. Class is held rain or shine, in the event of inclement weather, instruction and shooting will take place inside the nature center’s classroom. Minimum age is 18.

Students will learn the skills needed to gain a firm foundation in archery. This is designed as a beginner archery development program for high school age students. This class focuses on group-style target archery and is taught by USA Archery-certified instructors. Beyond the Basics: Level 2. — Aiming and Scoring
Take your archery skills to the next level with the intermediate series of archery courses. Now it’s time to work on aim and learning how to score a regulation target face. Participants will learn different aiming techniques for bare-bow as well as how to use a basic target sight and the importance of your sight picture. Play some aiming games and end the sessions with a mini-scoring round. Class is held on the instructional archery range directly next to Rockwood Nature Center. All equipment is provided, or use your own with instructor permission. PREREQUISITE: Participants must have completed the Beyond the Basics: Level 1 course within the past year or participated in an archery club in order to be eligible for this program.

Has your child been bitten by the Archery bug? Join our USA Archery certified instructors for an exciting week focusing on all things archery. We’ll start with an introductory session, so no previous experience is needed. Then progress through more advanced programs and use different types of equipment. We’ll also take some time to explore some of Virginia’s wild places and have summer fun! Campers should bring a snack and lunch and wear close-toed shoes. For ages 10-13.

Individual Archery Coaching

Individual Archery CoachingFor archers seeking to improve their shooting form, compete at a higher
level, shoot in their first tournament, or overcome a specific issue, there
is no better way to achieve your goals than working one-on-one with
a coach. Our USA Archery Level 3 National Training System coach will
work with individual archers or up to two friend-or-family archers to help
them become better, more consistent shooters. Sessions run one hour
and are by appointment only, subject to instructor availability.
